» APPEARANCE: Yusei is of average height, around 5'8", with an athletic build comparable to a well-trained martial artist. His black hair is streaked in the front with bright blond and usually gelled up into spiked "wings" on either side of his head, though if he forgoes the gel it hangs straight past his shoulders. His eyes are dark blue and somewhat angular, with long black lashes. He bears a thin, electric yellow criminal mark on his left cheek, consisting of a small triangle under his eye and a jagged line that runs from right under his eye to his jaw line. He tends to favor dark clothing, his usual garb comprised of a black t-shirt with a red tech design, a dark blue jacket with a high collar, a flaring thigh-length hemline and orange "cabochon" accents, jeans, and brown leather boots and gloves. He has a red-brown birthmark on his right outer forearm that looks vaguely like the outline of an arrowhead: this is his Dragon's Mark, the Tail of the Crimson Dragon.
» PERSONALITY: At first glance, Yusei is usually quiet, almost stoic. When he does speak, he's quite blunt and matter-of-fact, and his speech patterns reflect both great intelligence and a youth spent in the slums. He possesses a steadfast, loyal nature and is generally the level-headed voice of reason in any conflict. He tends to look serious a majority of the time, his smiles being quite rare and his laughter even more so. He's not above smirking if he gets the upper hand on an opponent, though. Those who don't know him well might consider him to be borderline apathetic at times. However, at deeper levels, he is startlingly emotional and empathetic to those around him. He will openly cry if wounded deeply enough, not ashamed to show grief or anger if something truly strikes a nerve.

Yusei's friends are his lifeblood; harming one of them draws swift, controlled, but dangerous wrath. He is absolutely loyal to those close to him, and he is not above placing himself squarely in harm's way to protect others. He has proved in the past that he is willing to take the fall to safeguard both life and reputation for those he calls friend. If anyone close to him is killed or otherwise grievously harmed, he can sink into melancholy without someone else to snap him out of it. He will also gladly help out those in need, even strangers, as he understands very well how tough it can be to survive on one's own. He's very street-wise, with good survival instincts; growing up an orphan in the slums taught him how to get by with very little, all without complaining.

Never one to be idle, Yusei possesses a compulsive need to tinker and build, or otherwise keep himself busy. He's a master of turning salvage and spare parts into usable items, having built his own motorcycle from scrap back in his hometown. He's also a master at repairing things, even items he's never seen before; he simply takes his time to examine said item, and his analytical mind takes over from there. He's determined and persistent enough to follow through on learning about something he's never seen before, even if it takes weeks or months. (Mun's note: Even with these skills, Yusei will still adhere to the rules of Atia's technology; this is merely part of his history and personality.) If he has nothing to do, he can become restless, even irritable. This makes him something of a dedicated workaholic. Anyone hiring him to work will have an honest, compliant, competent workhorse at their disposal.
» BACKGROUND: Yusei was born in Tops, the most exclusive area of Neo Domino City. His parents were researchers working on Momentum, the perpetual motion engine designed to power the entire city. Due to the actions of an assistant-turned-enemy, Dr. Fudo and his wife died when Momentum exploded. The Zero Reverse incident also killed thousands of others and split the slums of Satellite off from the main city. It is there that Yusei grew up in an orphanage, along with his friends Jack Atlas and Crow. The three friends, along with a fourth named Kiryu, conquered the other gangs of duelists that controlled Satellite, until the day the group split up when Kiryu went mad with power and killed a security officer. The rift grew wider when Jack betrayed Yusei, stealing Yusei's Duel Runner and his favorite card before fleeing to Neo Domino, where he became the King of the Riding Duels.

Yusei managed to get himself arrested for trespassing in Neo Domino in his quest to even the score with Jack, earning the criminal marker on his face. Despite the prejudice of the city dwellers toward those from the Satellite, Yusei entered the Fortune Cup (under duress) and won the title of Duel King from Jack. At the same time, he discovered that he, along with four others, were Signers, those marked by and bound to the powerful force of good called the Crimson Dragon.

Yusei and three of the other Signers began to fight against the Dark Signers, people called back from death to settle grudges they had in life. The Dark Signers called on "Earthbound Gods," evil spirits sealed into the Nazca lines, to defeat the Signers and to turn the world into hell. Yusei defeated his former friend Kiryu, who had become a Dark Signer, and moved on to face Rudger, the man who had set Zero Reverse into motion, the man who had killed his family. But even in defeat, Rudger was determined to take Yusei with him. He destroyed the bridge they were dueling on, sending Yusei falling into the energy still welling inside the destroyed Old Momentum....
» OTHER: Yusei is a perfectionist, doggedly pursuing any endeavor he sets his mind to. He's mainly fearless, but he has a distinct phobia of insects due to an incident growing up in the slums. He's also prone to nightmares of his fights against the Dark Signers, specifically his two duels against Kiryu. In the first one, Yusei was injured by shrapnel; he still bears a jagged scar on his lower right abdomen. The second time, Kiryu's sanity returned and he admitted he still considered Yusei a friend... just before the Dark Signer's power left him and his body turned to dust. These two images, as well as his fall into Old Momentum right before he appeared in Atia, still haunt him.

As of his entry into Atia, Yusei is a virgin in every sexual sense of the word.
